18th Urban Mobility India Conference-cum-Expo-2025′ Begins on Nov 7th in Gurugram

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Manohar Lal will inaugurate the three-day conference

Gurugram : The 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo – 2025 is being organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, through the Institute of Urban Transport (India), from Friday, November 7th to November 9th in Gurugram, adjacent to the national capital. The event is supported by the Government of Haryana and Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Shri Manohar Lal will inaugurate the three-day conference. This information was given by Jaideep, OSD (Urban Transport), Ministry of Urban Housing, Government of India, at the curtain raiser ceremony. GMRL MD Dr. Chandra Shekhar Khare, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar, and Director (MITS) Yogesh Antil from the Ministry of Urban Housing, Government of India were present on the occasion.

Jaideep, OSD (Urban Transport), Ministry of Housing, Government of India, stated that the primary objective of this conference is to provide cities with information on the latest and best urban transportation solutions, so they can stay updated with global developments and innovations. He added that such events provide a common platform for experts, policymakers, technical institutions, service providers, and professionals from across the country and abroad. This event is an important initiative towards building an effective urban transportation system.

Giving details about the three-day activities, he stated that the event will be inaugurated by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Mr. Manohar Lal on November 7th, while Chief Minister Mr. Nayab Singh Saini will be the chief guest at the event on November 8th. Union Minister of State Shri Rao Indrajit Singh, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Tokhan Sahu, and other dignitaries will be present on this occasion. He informed that the three-day conference will be attended by national and international delegates, senior officials from the central and state governments, policy makers, managing directors of metro rail companies, heads of transport enterprises, international experts, professionals, and academics.

*Conference to be based on the theme “The Link Between Urban Development and Mobility”

He explained that the main theme of the 2025 conference will be “The Link Between Urban Development and Mobility.” The conference will focus on urban development strategies and transportation planning. The conference will explore how urban planning and transportation decisions interact, impacting areas such as economic development, environmental sustainability, social equity, and public health. This approach emphasizes addressing urban challenges with the understanding that urban development and mobility are complementary. He emphasized that urban lifestyles today are increasingly dependent on fast, efficient, and reliable transportation. Amidst challenges like evolving climate change, there is a growing need for accessible and low-carbon public transportation in cities. Building mass rapid transit systems in densely populated cities can not only reduce emissions but also provide safe, healthy, and inclusive living.

He explained that the three-day event will include a conclave, research symposia, plenary sessions, technical sessions, panel discussions, and interactive exhibitions. These events will include participation from policymakers and industry from various countries, including India. Experts, researchers, and delegates from across the world will participate. Technical tours and heritage sites will also be included, offering delegates a glimpse into the region’s rich culture and urban transportation initiatives.


Dr. Chandra Shekhar Khare, Managing Director, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited, said that Gurugram is proud to host this prestigious national-level event. The event will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase the state’s progress in sustainable urban development, smart transportation solutions, and infrastructure innovation. He expressed hope that the event will contribute to the progress of the state and the country by discussing emerging issues, trends, innovations, and challenges in the field of urban transportation and mobility.
