Gurugram: Director General of Prisons, Haryana K. Selvaraj inaugurated a first of its kind Skill Development Centre for jail inmates at District Jail, Gurugram.
The Skill Development Centre has been established by Prison Department under the Prime Minister Skill Development Scheme in collaboration with Jaquar Foundation and Art of Living. This centre will produce about 100 trained plumbers every year. District and Session Judge, Gurugram Mr Ravi Kumar Sondhi was also present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Selvaraj urged inmates to enthusiastically participate in training programmes being conducted in jail and avail its benefits to the full so that they can contribute to the society after serving their respective jail terms. The idea behind the setting up of various centres is to professionally train inmates in different fields.
At this centre, as many as 30 inmates could get plumber training together. The course will be of three months duration. After that, all successful inmates would get a certificate following an examination. A tool-kit will also be given to inmates after they walk free from jail.
The programme was also attended by Jail Superintendent, Gurugram Mr Jai Kishan Chillar and other senior officers of Jail department and district administration.
