New Delhi: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal addressed the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting during a session on “Weaponization of Food through Coercive Trade Action.”
Goyal stressed that the shared objective of G20 members should be to ensure that food remains a source of security, stability and cooperation, rather than becoming a tool of pressure in international trade.
He also emphasised the need to clearly distinguish between the weaponisation of food supply chains and legitimate trade or policy measures adopted by countries to pursue domestic policy objectives and address their food-security requirements.
The Minister underlined the importance of maintaining a balanced approach that safeguards food security while respecting countries’ legitimate policy space and strengthening cooperation within the global trading system.
