Procurement to strengthen operational readiness and support greater self-reliance in critical armoured-platform systems
New Delhi, September 21, 2026: The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹586 crore contract with Accurate Industrial Controls Private Limited for the procurement of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for T-72 and T-90 tanks of the Indian Army.
The contract was signed in New Delhi on September 21 in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Indigenous APUs to enhance tank capabilities
The APU serves as an alternative source of electrical power for critical tank systems, including the fire control system, firing circuit, gun stabilisation system and other auxiliary equipment.
The induction of indigenously developed APUs is expected to strengthen the operational readiness, reliability and sustainability of the Indian Army’s mechanised formations by providing an additional and dependable power source for essential systems.
Push for defence indigenisation
The procurement represents an important step towards the indigenisation of critical sub-systems used in armoured platforms. It has been undertaken under the Make-II category, which promotes industry-led research and development for defence requirements.
The project also highlights the role of the Make-II framework in taking indigenous technologies from development and innovation to production and induction into the Armed Forces.
The contract is in line with the Government’s broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and the objective of achieving Aatmanirbharta in Defence.
The Ministry said the initiative will contribute to building a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive Indian defence industry, while strengthening domestic capabilities in the development and production of critical defence technologies.
