NEW DELHI: India-Japan defence cooperation has reached another significant milestone with the maiden visit of Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) fighter aircraft to India for Exercise Veer Guardian 2026.

The exercise marks the second joint fighter aircraft exercise between India and Japan, following Veer Guardian 2023, when Indian Air Force fighter aircraft visited Japan for the first time.

The reciprocal deployment of fighter aircraft by the two countries represents an important step in deepening bilateral defence cooperation. It reflects the growing level of strategic trust and operational engagement between the Indian Air Force and the JASDF.

Exercise Veer Guardian 2026 will provide an opportunity for the participating forces to enhance interoperability, exchange operational tactics and strengthen combat skills through joint training and flying activities.

The reciprocal deployment also carries wider strategic significance, as India and Japan seek to further strengthen cooperation for peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The exercise is expected to contribute to closer professional ties between the two air forces while laying a stronger foundation for long-term defence cooperation and operational coordination between India and Japan.
