Gurugram : Haryana Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajesh Nagar inaugurated the 16th IIC Summit 2026 at The Oberoi, Gurugram, on Saturday. The two-day conference brought together cardiology experts from India and abroad to discuss advances in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases, emerging technologies and the management of complex cardiac cases.
Addressing the gathering, Rajesh Nagar said continuous research, innovation and technological advancement in the medical field have significantly improved the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases. He noted that the availability of advanced medical technologies and facilities has made it possible to manage several complex cardiac conditions more effectively.
He said such conferences provide an important platform for medical professionals to exchange experiences, discuss new treatment approaches and collectively explore solutions to emerging challenges in healthcare.
Minister Highlights Link Between Diet and Heart Health
Rajesh Nagar also highlighted the importance of safe and quality food in maintaining a healthy society. He said dietary habits have a direct bearing on heart health, with excessive consumption of salt, sugar and oil, an unbalanced diet and adulterated or poor-quality food potentially increasing health risks.
He urged people to adopt healthier eating habits and remain aware of their consumer rights, particularly with regard to the quality and safety of food products.
India Emerging as a Medical Care Destination
The Minister said India’s healthcare infrastructure and medical capabilities have been steadily expanding, attracting patients from several countries for treatment. He described the availability of quality medical care at comparatively affordable costs as an important achievement for the country.
He also noted the emphasis being placed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on strengthening India’s healthcare and medical sectors. Referring to India’s economic progress, he said the country is consolidating its position among the world’s leading economies and moving towards a place among the top three.
Rajesh Nagar stressed that alongside expanding medical infrastructure, greater public awareness about heart disease prevention, regular health check-ups and healthy lifestyles is equally important.
Focus on Structural and Coronary Heart Disease
The 16th IIC Summit 2026 is being held on the theme “Transforming Structural and Coronary Heart Disease”, with “Evidence, Expertise, Evolution” as its central theme. The summit is being organised on August 22 and 23.
On the opening day, specialists discussed several advanced areas of cardiovascular medicine, including TAVR, PCI, DCB, DES, Artificial Intelligence, OCT, IVUS, Complex Coronary Disease, Heart Failure, Structural Heart Interventions and Valve Therapies.
A number of technical workshops were also conducted, including Evolve: Next-Generation Cardiovascular Therapies, Calcium Busters, LM Bifurcation and Imaging Workshop and Complex Case Theatre. The sessions provided opportunities for experts to examine complex cases, discuss newer treatment techniques and share practical experience with emerging technologies.

The summit brought together specialists from the fields of interventional cardiology, structural heart disease and coronary intervention.
