Visakhapatnam: The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed two Licensing Agreements for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) aimed at strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.
The agreements cover two key technologies developed by NSTL. The first involves the Submarine Fired Decoy (SFD) and has been signed with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). The second agreement provides technology for the fabrication, installation and commissioning of the LM2500 Gas Turbine and has been signed with Vertex Engineering Systems Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command; Dr R. Balamuralikrishnan, Director General (Naval & Strategic Systems), DRDO; and Dr Abraham Varughese, Director, NSTL.
The transfer of these technologies is expected to facilitate their transition from the research and development stage to industrial-scale production, enabling greater participation of Indian industry in the defence manufacturing ecosystem.
The initiatives underline DRDO’s continued efforts towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with a focus on converting indigenous research and technological capabilities into deployable products and strengthening India’s self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
