New Delhi: Union Minister for Education, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, chaired a meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution to discuss strategies for boosting India’s testing infrastructure for economic growth.
The meeting focused on strengthening the country’s testing ecosystem by expanding modern laboratory facilities, enhancing quality assurance mechanisms, and aligning testing standards with internationally accepted benchmarks.
During the deliberations, members discussed measures to build a robust and reliable testing infrastructure capable of supporting India’s growing manufacturing sector and improving the quality and safety of products available in the domestic market.
Pralhad Joshi emphasized that a strong testing ecosystem is essential for protecting consumer interests by ensuring that products meet prescribed quality and safety standards. He noted that modern testing facilities and internationally benchmarked standards would also contribute to greater transparency and consumer confidence.
The discussions also highlighted the role of advanced testing infrastructure in improving the ease of doing business by enabling faster and more reliable product certification processes. Strengthening quality assessment mechanisms, the Minister said, would enhance the global competitiveness of Indian industries and help manufacturers meet international regulatory requirements.
The meeting further underlined that improved testing capabilities would support the government’s vision of expanding domestic manufacturing, increasing exports, and positioning India as a globally competitive production hub.
According to the Ministry, developing world-class testing infrastructure is a key step towards ensuring higher product quality, facilitating trade, encouraging innovation, and driving sustainable economic growth while reinforcing India’s manufacturing and export capabilities.
