Bhiwani : Ashok Buwaniwala, Chairman of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Industry Cell, has accused the Haryana government, saying that the BJP-ruled state government is depriving poor families of ration by cutting ration cards on a large scale. He said that about 4.5 lakh ration cards have been canceled in the last three months, and preparations are underway to cut the cards of about 1.17 lakh more families in the coming July. He said that the biggest loss due to these cuts is being suffered by the BPL (below poverty line) families.

The Congress leader said that the speed at which ration cards were made to garner votes during the elections, now they are being cut at a faster pace than that. He alleged that the BJP government took votes from the public by making ration cards for electoral benefits, now the same poor people are being deprived of ration.

Ashok Buwaniwala also raised questions about the family identity card. He said that due to wrong mapping, ration cards of the entitled people are also being cancelled. He said that today in every street and locality of the state one can find many such people who are earning their livelihood by hard work, who do not even have a bike, let alone a bicycle, they have also been declared ineligible by showing them as having a car and a bungalow in the family identity card and their ration has been stopped.

He said that there are huge flaws in the family identity cards and the poor people are bearing the brunt of it. He also alleged that corruption is at its peak in the state, and dozens of complaints are being registered daily in the Food and Supply Department.

Buwaniwala said that if the ration card cuts are not stopped immediately and justice is not done to the eligible people, then the opposition will not back down from agitation. He appealed to the government that all the eligible people declared ineligible should be reviewed with immediate effect and their rights should be given back to them by the state government.
